What is Russell 2000?
The Russell 2000: two thousand smaller American companies.
IWM tracks the Russell 2000, the benchmark for small US companies. Its members earn most of their revenue at home and borrow at floating rates, so they feel the domestic economy and the cost of credit more directly than large companies do.
It tends to lead when investors expect lower rates and stronger growth at home, and to lag when credit tightens. On this venue it is thinly traded, so the spread is wider than on the larger indices.

When does IWMUSDT trade?
The perpetual trades around the clock, but it follows a market that is open 09:30 to 16:00 New York time. Outside those hours, and at weekends, the book is thinner and spreads are wider.
What are the risks of trading Russell 2000 on a prop account?
- This is a perpetual contract: it has no expiry, and its price can sit slightly above or below the market it follows.
- The market it follows is closed at weekends. A position held through the weekend meets Monday’s opening price, which can be far from Friday’s close.
- Thin trading on this instrument: larger orders move the price more than on SPY or QQQ.
