Read the instrument’s size unit and the current capacity estimate. Margin reserved, notional exposure, and loss allowance are different figures.
Select a numbered step to zoom straight to that control.
Read the size units
Confirm the selected instrument. Enter size in the coin, contract, or trading unit shown by its control.
Use the control’s minimum and increment. A size valid for one instrument may be invalid for another.
Review the amount and margin description under the size control. A percentage shortcut uses available capacity, not your maximum tolerable loss.
Read the cost and capacity
- Notional is the exposure represented by the order. Margin is the amount reserved at the applicable leverage; neither is the account’s permitted drawdown.
- Existing positions and resting entries reserve margin. A personal margin cap may restrict size further.
- Calculated trading fees reduce the trading result. Maker/taker treatment and funding depend on the instrument and venue; read the displayed estimate and final journal.
- The visible book and estimated fill help assess size-related slippage. An estimate is not a fixed execution price.
If size is blocked
Read the stated minimum, increment, capacity, margin, or stop-risk issue. Reduce or correct the request as indicated.
Check Risk center for firm limits and any personal cap. Do not increase leverage or resend repeatedly to bypass a rule.
After a fill, compare actual size, price, fees, and remaining capacity with the estimate.
Common questions
Can I lose only the margin shown?
Margin is a capacity calculation, not a guaranteed maximum loss. Account drawdown rules, fees, funding, and execution all affect the outcome.
Why did the available size shrink before I filled?
Resting entries can reserve capacity. Other open exposure and a personal margin cap can also reduce the amount available for a new request.
You’re done when…
The quantity uses the selected instrument’s unit and step and fits its current capacity.
